Grady Hendrix’s The Final Girl Support Group, previously in development as an HBO Max series, is now headed to your eyeballs via a new studio and medium. Deadline has the news that Paramount is working on a film adaptation of the novel, with Christopher Landon attached as writer and director. Landon previously directed Happy Death Day and its sequel, along with one film in the Paranormal Activity series. He also wrote several Paranormal Activity films along with Happy Death Day 2U, and he co-wrote Highway to Heaven, a 2021 TV movie remake of the old series, which I did not know existed until this moment. Landon also produced a previous Hendrix adaptation, the 2022 film My Best Friend’s Exorcism. The Final Girl Support Group is the story of six final girls—those left standing at the end of horrifying experiences—who meet regularly with a therapist. As the book synopsis explains: Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre. For more than a decade, she’s been meeting with five other final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, working to put their lives back together. Then one woman misses a meeting, and their worst fears are realized—someone knows about the group and is determined to rip their lives apart again, piece by piece. But the thing about final girls is that no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up. The novel was a New York Times bestseller and a Good Morning America pick; Publishers Weekly called it “A wildly entertaining romp through the conventions of horror’s slasher film subgenre.” A rather astonishing number of Hendrix’s works are in development at the moment, including the novels The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, How to Sell a Haunted House, and Horrorstör, and the short stories “Ankle Snatcher” and “The Blanks.” Which will be first to make it to release is anyone’s guess.[end-mark] The post Grady Hendrix’s The Final Girl Support Group Is Now Being Developed as a Film appeared first on Reactor.
